Your students' work belongs to your classroom
Last updated: April 17, 2026
What happens in your classroom stays in your classroom. Your students' work is private, to you, for you. We never sell it, share it, or hand it to anyone else. Not parents, not other teachers, not other schools, not AI companies. You're in charge. Delete any student's data any time.
What we collect
When you grade a paper or generate a worksheet, we process:
- The image you upload (a student paper, an existing worksheet, a textbook page, or a sketch)
- The text we extract from it
- The grade, per-question scores, and feedback produced by the AI (grading flow)
- The worksheet we generate for you (Worksheet Studio)
- Any edits you make before export
- The rubric, notes, or other metadata you provide
Legal basis
You, the teacher, are the school official responsible for these assignments. By uploading student work you confirm you have the right to use an automated grading tool in support of your instruction. Grade Coach acts under your direction.
How long we keep it
Images and extracted text are processed for the grading session and are not retained on our servers after the job completes. Grades and teacher edits persist while your browser-based account is active so you can return to a grade sheet. You can request deletion of any student's data at any time via the contact form.
Who we share with
To run Grade Coach we use a small set of sub-processors:
- AI model provider: runs the grading model and the worksheet analysis model under API terms that do not allow customer content to train foundation models.
- OpenAI (gpt-image-2): renders generated worksheet images. OpenAI does not use API content to train its models by default.
- Netlify: hosts the site and serverless functions.
- Stripe: handles paid credit purchases after the free tier. Card data is processed by Stripe; we never see it.
- PostHog: product analytics and session replays to improve the product. Student work, names, and uploaded files are never sent to PostHog. Session recordings mask all input fields and visible text by default.
We do not train on your data. We do not sell student work, share it with parents, share it with other teachers, share it with schools you don't belong to, or hand it to outside AI companies to train on.
Google account access (Sheets export)
If you choose "Open in Google Sheets" to export a grade sheet, Grade Coach connects to your Google account. We ask for a single permission, and we use it only for the export:
- See, edit, create, and delete only the files you open or create with Grade Coach (drive.file): lets us create one new gradebook spreadsheet in your own Google Drive. This permission gives us access only to files Grade Coach itself creates. We never see, list, or touch any other file in your Drive.
- Write only to the gradebook we just made for you: that same drive.file access is what lets us fill in your grade rows. We only ever write to that one new sheet, never to any other spreadsheet or file in your Drive.
The grades we export are your own data. We hand them to your Google account and we do not keep a copy of the created sheet on our servers. We never read, copy, or transfer any other content from your Google Drive.
How your connection is stored. The token that lets us write to your sheet is stored on our server (Supabase, server-side only) and is never exposed to your browser. You can disconnect Grade Coach at any time from your Google Account permissions page (myaccount.google.com/permissions), which revokes our access.
FERPA
For schools subject to FERPA, Grade Coach operates as a school-official tool under the direct control of the teacher. The teacher uploads the work; the teacher controls the output; the teacher can delete the data.
Cookies & analytics
We use a privacy-friendly analytics tool (PostHog) to understand how teachers use Grade Coach, plus Google Ads conversion measurement when ad campaigns are running. These tools set a small number of cookies in your browser to remember your session, measure which features get used, and tell us whether ads lead to signups. We never sell the data, and session recordings mask all text and inputs so student work is never captured.
You can opt out any time from the cookie notice at the bottom of the page. Opting out stops all analytics capture. Clearing your browser cookies resets the choice.
Your rights
You can delete any student's data at any time. You can stop using Grade Coach at any time. You can request a copy or deletion of your data via the contact form.
Reset or delete your account
On the Account page you have two buttons:
- Reset my data: wipes every grading run, class, student, assignment, and worksheet. Your account, subscription, and credits stay so you can keep using Grade Coach with a clean slate. Perfect for end of semester.
- Delete my account: wipes all of the above plus removes your account-identity rows. Active subscriptions cancel at period-end so you keep what you paid for. This cannot be undone.
What we keep, and why: Stripe keeps your billing history for tax and refund-fraud reasons we can't override. Your device's free-credit fingerprint stays so the same browser can't sign up for a new free trial right after deleting. Both contain no student work.
